Nobody puts baby in a corner. Dirty Dancing represents one of the most iconic films produced during the 1980s, and as such it really was only a matter of time before someone decided to remake it for the modern age. An updated version of the classic Patrick Swayze-Jennifer Grey movie will soon come to ABC, and its already stellar cast has just brought in an amazing addition: Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams.
Billy Dee Williams has indeed joined the cast of the upcoming Dirty Dancing remake on ABC, and according to The Wrap, he will portray the charming bandleader named Tito, a character fans of Dirty Dancing will likely remember from Charles ‘Honi’ Coles' iconic portrayal in the original 1987 film. It’s the sort of role that requires a surplus of charisma, and considering the roles on Billy Dee Williams’ resume – he’s Lando Calrissian and pre-scar Harvey Dent, after all – we find the casting absolutely perfect.
However, there is one slight, small, minuscule problem: Billy Dee Williams totally sucks at dancing. I don’t mean to sound disparaging, but that’s the cold, hard truth. He may be the smoothest guy in the galaxy, but on the dance floor he seems to acquire a second left foot. He appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2014, and let’s just say that he didn’t exactly wow anyone with his performance.
In fact, we happen to have video of his appearance on Dancing with the Stars from two years ago. Check out the clip below and try your hardest not to cringe.
Was that as hard for you to get through as it was for me? Let’s just hope that that filmmakers have enough sense to keep the Star Wars actor off of the dance floor and on the stage so he can stick to his specialty: smooth talking. Billy Dee Williams represents only the latest in a long line of all-star members of the Dirty Dancing remake’s cast. He will join Abigail Breslin – who is portraying Baby – Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland, Will and Grace's Debra Messing, newcomer Colt Prattes, and Nicole Scherzinger from The Pussycat Dolls.
We will bring your more information regarding the highly anticipated Dirty Dancing remake as it becomes available to us. Stay tuned!
