Hal Holbrook Joins Sons of Anarchy

In the season finale of Sons of Anarchy Gemma Teller Morrow (Katey Sagal) went on the lam to save the club and herself. She’s now on the run to parts unknown. We don’t know where she’ll end up, but one thing is clear; she’ll meet her father along the way. According to Deadline, Hal Holbrook has signed on to play Gemma’s father, Nate Hadock. Father and daughter will reconnect in a four episode arc starting with the season premiere.

The 85-year old Holbrook is a classic “that guy” with acting credits spanning back to the mid-1950’s. Recently, he received Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination for his role of father figure, Ron Franz in Into the Wild. The father-daughter story arc could be a nice turn in Sons of Anarchy as Gemma’s character spent a great deal of Season 2 suffering in silence. We know very little of her back story, her roots, her childhood, or how she came to be such an integral part of SAMCRO. It is unclear if her relationship with her father was positive (I doubt it), but could begin to serve as a sort of redemption for a much damaged woman. Hopefully this arc gives us a deeper look at one of the more interesting characters in television.
