Will John Travolta Appear In American Crime Story Season 2?

Although the first season of American Crime Story will soon come to a close, that only opens up immense possibilities for the future. Given the anthology approach to Ryan Murphy’s American series, it has everyone wonder exactly which actors will return for future seasons. We know that the action will move locations from Los Angeles to Louisiana to tackle the events of Hurricane Katrina, but we know little about any real casting details. One of the most unexpected actors who may return is arguably American Crime Story’s biggest name: John Travolta.

Speaking with THR, John Travolta admitted that he has an immense desire to return to the series for its second season, despite what others may have thought:

I told them I was interested and that it was up to them. I don’t think they expected that I would say that, but because [Katrina] comes close to home, I felt that way.

John Travolta has been very vocal about how much he enjoyed making American Crime Story recently. His performance as defense lawyer Robert Shapiro has become one of the most talked about aspects of the show’s first season. Partly because of his performances high quality, and partly because of how downright bizarre it is.

The actor would go on to say that many people might not have expected him to agree to sign onto a show about Katrina, due to the personal nature of that tragedy to him. During the horrific incident in 2005, Travolta personally flew down to help aid in the rescue and recovery efforts. This had led some to speculate that Travolta could even potentially play himself in a cameo appearance during the American Crime Story’s second season. Considering the insane stuff Ryan Murphy has come up with in the past, we won’t rule it outside the realm of possibility.

Travolta isn’t the only high-profile member of the cast who has an interest in coming back for another season. Even O.J. himself, Cuba Gooding Jr., has made it abundantly clear that he enjoyed his time working on the show, and wouldn’t hesitate to return.

If nothing else, this seems to be an indicator of television’s growing prestige among audiences. TV shows offer a fresher, more serialized platform for actors to tell longer, in-depth stories. With such great programs being produced by networks like HBO, AMC, and FX, it makes perfect sense that well-known actors like John Travolta and Cuba Gooding Jr. have such strong feelings about working on TV.

Considering how much we’ve enjoyed watching John Travolta as Robert Shapiro, we will keep our fingers crossed that he ultimately decides to return for Season 2 of American Crime Story. Be sure to tune in to the season finale of The People V. OJ Simpson tonight at 10 p.m. EST on FX.
