Kevin Sorbo Is Reuniting With Hercules Producers For New Show, Get The Details

It’s been 16 years since we last got to see Kevin Sorbo letting his chest go all uncovered on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and the actor has appeared in about a billion other projects since then. But he could be on the cusp of hitting his biggest TV gig in years, as he’s reconnecting with Hercules producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert for a new NBC drama project called Miracle Man. This one could really go either way, but it sounds interesting.

Coming from Sony Pictures TV in the production corner, Miracle Man is not trying to pull a fast one over on viewers with that name. It will center on Sorbo's Jason Greene, a notable Army Ranger who sees his time in Afghanistan come to a halt when he's almost killed. He's haunted by the experience, and his return home isn't exactly soothing, as his wife has left him and his adult son barely knows who he is. But he's got a gift now.

As Jason tries to turn his life back around, he discovers he can make miracles happen. Nothing too big here, at least right away, but rather small things that can unmistakably affect people's lives. And while it's assumed he'll figure out ways to use this for both bad and good, the skeptical Jason is also going to try to figure out why it's happening. Depending on the tone, I think it could be crazy enough to draw interest.

So we’ve got Sorbo, Raimi and Tapert on the executive producer side of things, along with some others, and putting the words on the page for Miracle Man will be The Great Debaters screenwriter Robert Eisele, according to Deadline. (He’ll also executive produce.) Having started out as a writer on Crime Story and The Equalizer, Eisele later found his way to Darkman II and 3: The Dale Earnhardt Story before landing the Denzel Washington-directed Debaters and Tim Story’s 2009 basketball flick Hurricane Season. Make of all that what you will.

It's a good time for Raimi and Tapert and older projects. Raimi is currently no doubt enjoying the massive praise given to his Starz horror comedy Ash vs Evil Dead, starring the praise-magnet Bruce Campbell. The duo are also working with NBC on a reboot-ish version of Xena: Warrior Princess, which is on the hunt for a writer.

Sorbo, who starred for quite a few years on the Sci-Fi Channel's Andromeda and had a recurring run on The OC, has made appearances on TV shows like Key & Peele and Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 in the past few years. He's also got a successful voicework career, having voiced another Hercules for the video game Smite, and his recent feature work includes the Mythica fantasy franchise, the Bill McAdams Jr. drama Gallows Road.

We'll be waiting to hear on what happens with Miracle Man as NBC's decisions get made. Are you guys ready for more Kevin Sorbo?
