Marc Cherry's Devious Maids Gets Series Order At Lifetime

With Wisteria Lane exiting ABC's Sunday night line-up, one would think that there would be a vacancy for the next set of women with drama. But the network appears to have given Sunday nights a make-over, with the new supernatural-focused drama 666 Park Avenue joining sophomore returners Once Upon a Time and Revenge on Sunday nights. ABC might have found another place for Marc Cherry's Devious Maids, but the network opted to pass on the soapy-sounding drama, and rumor had it, Lifetime had its eye on it.

Based on a Mexican telenovela (The Disorderly Maids of the Neighborhood), Cherry's Devious Maids stars Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez and Roselyn Sanchez as four women who work for rich people in Beverly Hills. With Susan Lucci, Grant Show and Mariana Klaveno cast to play some of the mentioned wealthy-folk, it seems likely that the drama is spread somewhat evenly across the line between staff and employers. With ABC passing on the pilot, Lifetime was rumored to be looking to pick it up, and today TV Line reports confirmation of that. Lifetime has given Devious Maids a 13-episode order, with the goal to get the series on the air sometime in 2013.

Lifetime seems like a fitting place to put the series. For one thing, the cable network has been steadily building its line-up of original content, with Drop Dead Diva and more recently The Client List joining Army Wives among the female-skewed series at the network. For another, Lifetime already airs Desperate Housewives reruns, so they're already catering to Marc Cherry's audience. But even if that weren't the case, this new series sounds like something that will fit in nicely at Lifetime.
