Is Regis Smarter Than A 5th Grader?

A special celebrity edition of Fox’s Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? is set to hit TV screens during November sweeps, Zap2it.com reports. Celebrity contestants include Clay Aiken and Kellie Pickler (both of American Idol fame), Regis Philbin (Live with Regis and Kelly), TV personality Billy Bush, skateboarder Tony Hawk, and Miss America Lauren Nelson.

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, is a game show that tests an adult’s knowledge against - you guessed it - a 5th grader’s. Contestants are asked questions in subjects from math to social studies to art, with the questions ranging from first to fifth grade-level. This could prove to be an interesting concept, as many adults have long since forgotten what they learned in 5th grade. Lucky for some adults, they are able to get a “peek”, “copy” or “save” from a 5th grader, if they need help.

This show is one of many reality/game shows that are jumping on the “celebrity” bandwagon to boost ratings. Some other similar shows to head down the same route are Jeopardy, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, Wheel of Fortune, and The Weakest Link.

You know, I have to say, these so-called celebrity versions of game shows can get a bit ridiculous. Most of the “celebrities” that are on are not that famous to begin with or they were famous decades ago (which is why I like to refer to Dancing with the Stars as “Dancing with the Has-Beens). Billy Bush?? I had to look him up on IMDb to find out that he hosted that god awful Grease reality show! I want to see Angelina Jolie or better yet Tom “You Don’t Know Psychology, I Do” Cruise on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. Too bad they’re both have better things to do.

That being said, I think I might actually tune in this November to the “celebrity” Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. I’m just dying to see how much that Kellie Pickler knows compared to those 5th grader. Now that’s good TV.
