This week, the Discovery Channel announced that it was officially ending its reality series, Sons of Guns. The news follows the arrest of series lead Will Hayden on Tuesday in Louisiana. He was arrested for the aggravated rape of his daughter from the time she turned eleven to the present, with the most recent abuse occurring as recently as last month. Because of the graphic and violent nature of the crime, it seems as if Discovery is hoping to distance itself as far as possible from the show.
This isn’t the first time in recent memory that Hayden has been in trouble with the law. Tuesday’s arrest follows allegations earlier in August that Hayden was responsible for molestation. That arrest occurred on August 9, with police charging the man with molestation of a juvenile and aggravated crimes against nature. At that time, his representative told Fox News that the charges were false and came about due to a workplace conflict.
Deadline is reporting that Sons of Guns was preparing to restart production around the time of Hayden’s first arrest. However, at the time, Discovery warned the crew that the show would probably not move forward, although the network only officially decided to chop the series from its lineup after more allegations came to light.
“Given the serious and horrific nature of the charges against William Hayden, we have decided to halt further production of Sons Of Guns and cancel the series.”
Discovery isn’t the only company distancing itself from Hayden. Hayden’s company, Red Jacket Firearms, which buys and sells firearms, also released a statement cutting all ties with the reality star.
Red Jacket Firearms LLC. has initiated and received full legal separation as an entity, from William M. Hayden. With heavy hearts, we will be continuing to operate and ensure the fulfillment of new customer orders, back orders and to provide support to those affected by these new developments. WE are the Heart and Soul of Red Jacket and will remain steadfast in our committment to quality and our customers, for years to come.
Sons of Guns debuted on the Discovery Channel back in January of 2011. The premise followed Hayden and his company as they bought and sold weapons. Early episodes included a Civil War cannon and a flamethrower, and Will’s oldest daughter, Stephanie, was a major part of the show. Despite the show being a mild success for Discovery, it’s easy to see why the network might want to cancel the series and stay as far from the serious allegations related to Hayden as possible. We’ll continue to update you as the story moves forward.
