Summertime Crime Drama Rookie Blue Renewed For Season 4

Many of us are fans of crime programs or at least have been fans of a crime program at some point or another, so we all know the prolific amount of procedurals there are to choose from. You can go with a detective focus, or a crime scene investigation focus, or an ensemble cast focus. There are genre comedies and genre dramas, but there is one thing these shows have in common: for every successful crime program, there is another that does not live into its second season. Which is why ABC’s decision to air Rookie Blue as part of its original summertime programming was such a good idea.

It may be difficult to find a good audience during the summer, but at least the show doesn't have a ton of other crime dramas to compete with on Thursday nights in the summertime. In its slot, Rookie Blue has proven a dominant force time and time again. In fact, the Missy Peregrym and Gregory Smith-starring vehicle has actually won its timeslot with the 18-49 demographic during its 3rd season on air and pulled in pretty decent numbers overall for ABC.

Because of the numbers, it is really no surprise Rookie Blue would get the greenlight for another season and, according to THR, today ABC went ahead and made the call. Season 4 is now in development and will be ready for production by the end of the summer. So if you enjoy the ensemble drama, you can breathe a little easier—there won’t be any unanswered cliffhangers to contend with.
