Well that certainly didn't take long. Just a few hours ago the news broke that frequent Joss Whedon collaborator Drew Goddard has been hired to write the upcoming Daredevil television series for Marvel Studios and Netflix, and now we have news that a writer and producer has been found for another one of the studios' recently announced series. According to Deadline, Melissa Rosenberg is now attached to develop the in-development Jessica Jones show.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Jones was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos and introduced back in 2001 as part of Marvel's Max Comics imprint (an arm that was aimed at a more adult audience and contained more mature material). Retroactively fit into the Marvel universe, she was introduced as a former superhero who opened a private detective agency who largely worked for superhero clientele. Thanks to an accident involving radioactive chemicals when she was a child, Jones has super strength, and the ability to fly.
This actually isn't the first time that Rosenberg has been hired to do a Jessica Jones show for Marvel. Back in 2010 when they were also trying to develop a new Hulk television series, Marvel hired Rosenberg to work on a show that was then called A.K.A. Jessica Jones. ABC eventually passed on the series, but now it looks like Rosenberg's is getting a second chance with the material. Deadline says the show is "undergoing redevelopment" for Netflix, but it's unclear exactly how severe any changes are going to be. Rosenberg is best known for writing all of the movies in the Twilight franchise, but she also has an extensive resume on television, having worked for shows like The O.C., Dexter, and (gulp) Birds of Prey.
If Goddard is handling Daredevil and Melissa Rosenberg is taking care of Jessica Jones, that just leaves Luke Cage and Iron Fist without somebody to guide them - not to mention the Defenders miniseries. The shows are likely going to go into production next year in preparation of being released in 2015, so now is definitely the time for the proper creative minds to be put in place.
