Most of us who watched the first season of the U.S. version of Fox’s hit singing competition The X Factor kind of saw Steve Jones’ firing coming. The man had trouble affecting empathy onstage and he also never totally fit the pace or tone of the show. Judge Nicole Scherzinger’s firing came as a bit more of a surprise; although it was clear judge and producer Simon Cowell was never a big fan of the way she judged contestants. Turns out The X Factor family has found room for the Pussycat Dolls singer, and now the man who wasn't a fan no longer has to spend time with the 33-year-old on the judges panel.

Today, Scherzinger took to her Twitter to drop the news that she will be returning to the UK version of The X Factor, in the role of the fourth judge on the hit show’s panel. According to THR, the singer will replace former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, who just could not find room in her busy schedule to hop across the pond to film the show this year.

Scherzinger was actually really gracious about the move, acknowledging she “got her start” with judging on the show, although she may be conveniently forgetting her stint on The Sing-Off.
”I’m so excited to join the UK X Factor family. It's where I got my start, so it feels great to come full circle. I can’t wait to see what talent the UK has to offer and to help inspire and bring out the best in these artists.”

Singing competitions can be wild beasts: hard to harness and to figure out the right combination of people, rules, and editing to make things work. It always sucks to be replaced, and despite the UK X Factor’s prowess, it probably feels like a step back to return to her old gig. She should feel firm in the knowledge that if she was going to be replaced by anyone, at least that person is Britney Spears.
