True Blood's Alfre Woodard Signs On For Season 2 Of Copper

Copper Renewed For Season 2 By BBC America

It seemed like a crazy idea when BBC America announced it was creating its first ever series for U. S. audiences. After all, the biggest selling point for the network is that it provides an access point for American audiences to view British television. However, anyone rooting against BBC America’s first American series, Copper, will now have to swallow their words. Today, the network renewed its new series for a second season.

BBC America Provides A Peek At Their First Original Scripted Series, Copper

The crime drama Copper was created by Homicide: Life on the Street's Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson, and Monster's Ball writer Will Rokos. Set in 1860s New York, the show will star Tom Weston-Jones as an Irish-American cop working in the city's Five Points neighborhood.

BBC America Moves Into Scripted Drama With Oz Creator

Set in 19th century New York, Copper will follow an Irish cop and explore the immigrant communities of the time period. That's an interesting and bold choice, given that period dramas typically include a hefty price tag. Still, at least it's not a modern cop/forensic/hospital drama. That's what TNT is for.
