Kevin Hart-Will Ferrell Comedy 'Get Hard' Picks Up A 2015 Release Date
It may only be February, but it's not premature to call Kevin Hart the Movie Star of 2014 thus far. The comedian/actor first opened the box office floodgates in January with the release of the hugely successful Ride Along, and back on Valentine's Day he helped About Last Night post some pretty fantastic numbers. It's not hard to see why any studio might want to start getting projects going that already have Hart's name attached, and that's exactly what Warner Bros. is doing with the new comedy Get Hard. While the film was announced all the way back in December 2012 when Hart and Will Ferrell came aboard to star, only now has the studio announced the movie's release date.
According to Box Office Mojo, we will finally get to see Get Hard when it hits theaters on March 27, 2015. Given how insanely overpopulated the 2015 calendar already is, it's no surprise that the film will have some pretty stiff competition. Already set to come out on that same weekend will be Neill Blomkamp's sci-fi comedy Chappie starring Hugh Jackman and Sharlto Copley and DreamWorks Animation's The Penguins of Madagascar. Obviously things may change between now and then, but right now it looks like quite an interesting showdown.
Set to be directed by Etan Cohen, the screenwriter behind Tropic Thunder, Get Hard will tell the story of a wealthy investment banker (Ferrell) who finds his life start going down the drain when he is arrested for a crime he didn't commit. With prison time looming and a tremendous fear of being manhandled by his fellow inmates, he decides that his best course of action is to hire the guy who washes his car (Hart) to teach him how to be an intimidating badass. Presumably we will be hearing some more casting news soon, as production will probably start up this summer.
I must admit that the thought of Hart and Ferrell teaming up already has me laughing, and I can't wait to see what the material offers for the two comedic stars. Not only do they both bring very different energy levels to the mix, they also have extremely different physical proportions (Ferrell is 6'3" while Hart is 5'2"). Cohen might actually have a problem keeping the two actors in frame together.
In addition to Get Hard, Warners has also announced a new date for Run All Night, the new action film from Jaume Collet-Serra starring RoboCop's Joel Kinnaman and Liam Neeson. The movie is based on an original script by Brad Ingelsby and centers on a hitman (Neeson) who must take down his former boss to protect his family. Similar to Collet-Serra's Non-Stop, the project has gotten a February release date - February 6, 2015, to be exact. Also set to come out that weekend is Legendary Pictures' Seventh Son, which was actually supposed to come out this year but wound up getting lost in the shuffle when Legendary broke away from WB.
