Star Trek Into Darkness Extended Trailer Lands Via Bad Robot
Are you kidding me? The amazing international trailer for J.J. Abrams’ sure-to-be-massive Star Trek Into Darkness still wasn’t enough for you? Even though it basically spelled out the revenge fantasy that will drive Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine) to the farthest reaches of the galaxy in pursuit of Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious foe?
Then this extended international trailer posted about, which was shared via Bad Robot’s Twitter feed, is going to have to do.
I think by “extended,” it simply means there are one or two brief snippets of scenes inserted into establishing shots for locations like San Francisco and London, though in general, it’s the exact same trailer … yet still in glorious HD. Seriously, Into Darkness looks beyond gorgeous, and even if Abrams and his team botch the storyline (which I don’t see how they could), the movie at the very least will be breathtaking to view on the big screen. Lens flares, people! Embrace them!
These new international trailers reveal a lot more about the plot of Into Darkness and, specifically, the role that Cumberbatch will play in the overall plot … which Abrams has been fighting to keep under wraps for as long as possible. There are still a number of mysteries that need to be revealed, but there’s more on the table, so to speak, as fans get ready for the sequel’s May 15 launch. Everything about Into Darkness suggests it will be the blockbuster to beat this summer movie season. Check out the below synopsis, and study every frame of the above trailer as you get ready for the sci-fi action that’s in store.
In Summer 2013, director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”
