It’s hard to believe it’s already September. As programs like Breaking Bad and Under the Dome are winding down their runs, new shows will be premiering on network and cable television over the next couple of months. Among these fall premieres is the ninth and final season of How I Met Your Mother. CBS hasn’t been shy about announcing the long-awaited ‘mother’ will play a large role in the final chunk of episodes, and the network’s latest teaser gives us several good looks at the character.
The new teaser gives us a short video segment following the shot the network initially put out this past spring of actress Cristin Milioti, who is mostly known for her Broadway work in Once. Back in May, we saw her at a ticket window of some sort, but now we know she’s getting on a train with Lily and things are a little crazy.
After the ticket sequence, we get to see Lily panicking on a train. Apparently, the mother is an excellent baker who just happens to carry around cookies in plastic containers when she travels just in case a panicking young woman is in need of some sugar. I like her already. Somehow, the cookie thing leads to a sort of in-fight between Lily and the character, as the third sequence shows the two women apologizing about their girl fight. It’s not a ton to go on, but it’s more than we’ve gotten to see from Milioti and the clip just reminds me how much I’m looking forward to seeing how the final episodes of How I Met Your Mother play out.
Meeting the mother should not be the only event fans are excited for during Season 9. The entire chunk of episodes is set to take place over the course of one weekend, and a special weekend at that. Season 9 will follow Robin and Barney's big wedding extravaganza event. It’s too early to tell whether or not that concept will be successful, but it’s an exciting premise, nonetheless. Additionally, some guest stars have already signed on for the new season of HIMYM, including Anna Camp, who is set to play a young woman named Cassie who meets Ted at the wedding. Unfortunately, Ted will soon learn how unfortunate the woman is.
For almost a decade, fans have been eagerly awaiting the conclusion to the story. They've been longing to get some kind of resolution to who Ted will end up with and why. As such, there's a whole lot of pressure on everyone involved to really deliver something satisfying. We won't know whether that goal was accomplished until we're in the thick of things, but certainly, this doesn't seem like a bad start.
You can check out more fall previews over at CBS, or tune in on Monday, September 23 at 8 p.m. ET when How I Met Your Mother premieres on CBS.
