Cult director Takeshi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) delivers a bravado period action film set at the end of Japan's feudal era in which a group of unemployed samurai are enlisted to bring down a sadistic lord and prevent him from ascending to the throne and plunging the country into a wartorn future.
This list started as an unfilled Word document saying “Best Movies” on January 1st , and it ended with over one hundred films that have been obsessively tweaked. There’s no ulterior motives and no efforts to impress behind the choices I’ve made. These are just the ones I liked a little bit more than the rest.
Unapologetically vile and aggressively gory, it follows a baker’s dozen of samurais as they willingly embrace death in a violent suicide mission aimed at taking out a Japanese Caligula. He’s murdered and raped for sport long enough, and now there are 13 men ready to expose their own throats to get in one punishing blow.

Get Assaulted By New Clips And Images From 13 Assassins
It’s really easy for a film about the samurai to be boring. Even master samurai film maker Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo falls victim to the period proving that even someone like him can make a movie that’s too slow for its own good. That does not seem to be the case with Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins however.
