Escape From Planet Earth Synopsis

The 3D animated family comedy catapults moviegoers to planet Baab where admired astronaut Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser) is a national hero to the blue alien population. A master of daring rescues, Scorch pulls off astonishing feats with the quiet aid of his nerdy, by-the-rules brother, Gary (Rob Corddry), head of mission control at BASA. When BASA's no-nonsense chief Lena (Jessica Alba) informs the brothers of an SOS from a notoriously dangerous planet, Scorch rejects Gary's warnings and bounds off for yet another exciting mission. But when Scorch finds himself caught in a fiendish trap set by the evil Shanker (William Shatner) it's up to scrawny, risk-adverse Gary to do the real rescuing. As the interplanetary stakes rise to new heights, Gary is left to save his brother, his planet, his beloved wife Kira (Sarah Jessica Parker) and their adventure hungry son Kip.

Pop culture regularly paints extraterrestrial aliens as forces of evil, creatures who want nothing more than to kill every last living soul on the planet and steal every resource we have. But there is a section of science fiction devoted to the opposite side of that coin - where aliens are actually innocents who are captured, tortured, killed and autopsied by large, mysterious government organizations.

Extraterrestrials have been a frequent visitor to movie theaters the past few years. However, when it comes to family friendly fare like Monsters Vs. Aliens, Megamind, Mars Needs Moms, and Planet 51, they generally haven't been faring too well. Monsters Vs. Aliens and Megamind both scored with critics, but the second proved a disappointment at the box office, while Mars Needs Moms and Planet 51 full-on flopped on both fronts.

Recent animated family features transported audiences to the red planet, where Martians needed our mothers, and to the unusually suburban Planet 51. For the Weinstein Company’s next adventure, we’re apparently venturing to the fictional planet of Baab, where Brendan Fraser is worshipped as an intergalactic hero and Rob Corddry is the real brains behind the operation.
