Batman: Arkham Origins Gameplay Trailer Puts Bounty on Dark Knight
The first Batman: Arkham Origins gameplay footage aired this week during E3. The trailer sets up the prequel's story while also showing off some of the combat.
Origins is set years before Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Batman is just establishing himself as a vigilante in Gotham City. His efforts haven't gone unnoticed by the criminal underworld. Crime boss Black Mask places a $50 million on him. On Christmas Eve, professional assassins like Bane, Deathstroke and Deadshot all descend on Gotham to earn the bounty.
The gameplay staples from previous games will return. The Freeflow combat system allows Batman to fight multiple enemies at once using his fists, feet and gadgets. During the Invisible Predator segments of the game, he'll try to silently take down armed enemies one at a time.
The trailer depicts a few new features as well, though. Batman will now be able to use his plane, the Batwing, to quickly travel across great distances. The detective mode has been revamped as well. Batman can now scan a crime scene and look at holographic recreations of the event, making the process much more vivid. In the trailer, we see him reconstructing a helicopter crash.
Arkham Origins will debut in October along with a handheld game called Blackgate.
