A marketing push can sometimes spell the difference between life and death for a new game franchise, even if said franchise is coming from the hugely popular team at Naughty Dog. It’s good, then, that the first trailer for their newest title, The Last of Us is set to air this week during the season finale of The Walking Dead.
While The Walking Dead has a pair of its own games to boast about (or not boast, if we’re specifically referring to Survival Instinct), it’s nice to see some of the TV show’s valuable commercial time going to a game that doesn’t fall too far from the zombie-infested tree.
In The Last of Us players help guide Joel and Ellie through a world that has been ravaged by a fungal outbreak. Similar to The Walking Dead, the surviving humans in The Last of Us are frequently just as deadly as the poor souls who appear to have been transformed into mindless, bloodthirsty monsters.
With only a few months left before the game’s June 14 launch date, Creative Director Neil Druckmann visited the PlayStation Blog this morning to let everyone know that the media blitz for the game is about to kick off.
“We are now just three months away from the release of Naughty Dog’s newest franchise,” Druckmann said. “The team is working extremely hard on putting the finishing touches to the game. It’s exciting to see all the different aspects of the game finally come together into the vision we’ve had in mind all along. Joel and Ellie’s journey is turning out to be something truly special that we can’t wait to share with our fans.”
As we said, some of that “sharing” will be taking place this Sunday night during the final episode of the third season of the Walking Dead TV show. Tune in for the zombies and stick around during the commercials to catch a glimpse of what The Last of Us will have to offer.
