While Tina Fey spent years as the star of her own show, playing Liz Lemon for seven seasons of 30 Rock, she doesn't have that much experience as a film's solo lead. She has been paired with some very funny people, from Amy Poehler in Baby Mama to Steve Carell in Date Night to Paul Rudd in Admission, but has never really had to carry a movie herself. Her latest project, according to The Wrap, may be her first chance to do just that. Fey is now attached to both star in and produce The Taliban Shuffle, an adaptation of journalist Kim Barker's book "The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan".

Robert Carlock, who collaborated with the actress/lead writer for years on 30 Rock, is penning the script, which follows Barker (Fey) back in 2002 as she travels on assignment to Kabul, Afghanistan. With little travel experience and without knowing any Arabic, Baker was very much lost in the Middle Eastern country, but as her work continued she began to develop a deep affinity for both Afghanistan and Pakistan and their people while also beginning to feel like peace would be impossible in the region.

With 30 Rock having ended at the start of last year, Fey has turned her attention more towards acting in films than on the small screen. In addition to the aforementioned Admission, she also had a funny cameo role in Adam McKay's Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues last year. In the fall she will be seen as part of the massive ensemble cast that makes up Shawn Levy's This Is Where I Leave You - which will be out in September - but next up she will be playing a Russian prison guard in James Bobin's Muppets Most Wanted:

I'm honestly a bit surprised that Fey isn't opting to write The Taliban Shuffle herself, but that may just be because she is too busy using her powerful pen for television. Back in October it was reported that Fey and Carlock were teaming up to create a new NBC show that would star Ellie Kemper as a woman who escapes a doomsday cult and tries to start her life over in New York City. The series has already gotten a 13-episode order.

The Taliban Shuffle could do big things for Fey's big screen career if successful, so hopefully it's her A-plus material. It doesn't sound as though there is a director attached to the project just yet, but we'll be following this one and updating you all as more info becomes available.
