Screen Gems Delays Takers, Priest, The Roommate And Underworld 4

Sony’s Screen Gems has something up its sleeve. The studio is doing some major release date shuffling which could be provoked by the 3D craze. The films involved include Priest, The Roommate, Underworld 4 and Takers.

According to ComingSoon, Priest’s shift is indeed due to a plan to convert the vampire flick into 3D. The Paul Bettany horror/actioner was set to hit theaters on August 20th, but now won’t be released until January 14th, 2011.

As for the other films in the mix, there’s been no official confirmation whether their postponement is due to 3D conversion arrangements. Takers is shifting from May 15th to August 20th. The Roommate will move from September 17th to February 4th, 2011 with its original slot being filled by Easy A. Lastly, Underworld 4 slides from January 1st, 2011 to September 23rd, 2011.

I doubt the delay of Takers has anything to do with adding a dimension, but The Roommate is another case. As far as the box office is concerned, 3D and horror is a match made in heaven. Concerning Underworld 4, there’s just far too much rumor circulating to formulate any sort of conjecture.
