Joe Kosinki’s recent sci fi effort, Oblivion, is prepping up for a jam-packed Blu-ray and DVD release and even an early digital release. If you want to get your hands on the flick as quickly as possible, you’ll be able to nab a digital copy beginning on July 23. If you're wanting to holdout for HD picture or a slew of bonus features, Oblivion will be available on Blu-ray and DVD beginning on August 6.
Despite ranking number #1 in its first week at the domestic box office, Tom Cruise’s newest starring endeavor, Oblivion, was neither a huge critical nor box office success domestically. It still did pretty well overseas, but if you are wondering why that movie isn’t hailed as a huge success while Cruise’s other recent box office intake, Jack Reacher, earned less money but still may get a sequel, you need look no further than the $120 million production budget Oblivion was saddled with. Still, the movie did make well over its budget worldwide, and if you did enjoy the post-apocalyptic thriller, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has put some care into the Blu-ray and DVD sets for the flick.
Blu-ray and DVD copies of the flick will all come with the same extras, and some of these are a little more outside-the-box than we normally get with flicks. Awesomely, both Kosinski and Cruise have put together audio commentary for the set, but the extra that most intrigues me is the “M83 Isolated Score,” which will allow fans to watch the movie accompanied by an “evocative” music track. You can pre-order the set over at Amazon, or check out the full list of extras, below.
