This weekend, the director of District 9 is once again bringing an enthralling, thought-provoking piece of original science-fiction to theaters nationwide. The sophomore effort from writer/director Neill Blomkamp, Elysium is set in a not-too-distant future where the richest of the rich have fled the Earth and moved to a luxurious space station where all disease has been eliminated. Meanwhile, the poor are stranded on the dying planet. Much like how District 9 approached the issues of apartheid, the new film serves as both entertainment and a parable for the harsh immigration and health issues that affect our world today. With great special effects and awesome performances from Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley, the movie is among the best we’ve seen this summer, and I recently had the opportunity to talk with the minds behind it.

At a press day for Elysium held in Los Angeles last week, I had the chance to sit down and talk one-on-one with Blomkamp, Damon and Copley about their latest movie. Watch all three interviews below to find out what it was that finally got Damon to take on a project in the science-fiction genre; how the writer/director avoided making the film too heavy-handed with its strong message; and how Copley got into the mind of a truly evil son-of-a-bitch while playing the role of the villainous mercenary Kruger. Check it out!
