Kit Harington has certainly held his own playing the role of Jon Snow on HBO's Game of Thrones, but how will he do in a starring role of a big-budget disaster film? It looks like we may find out as he's in talks to star in Pompeii, a film that focuses on the ancient Roman city destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil: Retribution, The Three Musketeers) is directing Pompeii, which would star Harington as a slave stuck on a ship who needs to save his true love, his master's daughter and his best friend, who's a gladiator stuck in the coliseum at the time Vesuvius begins spilling ash and lava on the ancient Roman city. THR says Constantin Film and Anderson are looking to create a period adventure movie with the story, going the Titanic route by tying in a love story.

This could be a great opportunity for Harington, who has already grabbed people's notice with his great portrayal of Jon Snow in HBO's Game of Thrones, the fantasy series based on George R.R. Martin's popular Song of Ice and Fire novels. Harington also has a part in The Seventh Son, Legendary Pictures' upcoming feature adaptation of Joseph Delaney's novel The Spook's Apprentice (a.k.a. The Last Apprentice: Revenge of the Witch). And we'll hear his voice in the upcoming How To Train Your Dragon follow-up. If there's a pattern developing here, it's fantasy stories and period pieces, which may just be a good fit for the British actor.
