When it was revealed earlier this month that Justin Lin would not be coming back to direct Fast & Furious 7 after directing the last four installments of the series, it didn't take Hollywood long to come up with a shortlist of possible replacements. Would it be Kick-Ass 2's Jeff Wadlow? The Lincoln Lawyer's Brad Furman? Karate Kid's Harold Zwart? The answer is apparently none of the above.

Deadline has learned that James Wan - director of thrillers such as Saw, Insidious, and the upcoming The Conjuring - has reportedly entered talks with Universal Pictures to direct Fast & Furious 7. While nothing has been made official just yet, the site says that a deal could be reached before the end of the week. Apparently other options the studio looked at also included Baltazar Kormakur, who worked with the studio on the Mark Wahlberg thriller Contraband.

Despite the fact that nothing is set yet, apparently Lin has already given Wan his endorsement, saying "I'm extremely proud to be part of the Fast franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure. Itís time for me to move on to other things and Iím thrilled that Universal and [producer Neal Moritz] have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter."

Wan is certainly an interesting choice, given that his career has been spent almost entirely in the horror genre, though he did dabble with a bit of action in 2007's Death Sentence, starring Kevin Bacon. But what do you fans think of the choice? Do you think James Wan is the right guy for the future of the Fast & Furious franchise? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
