The Last Airbender opens tonight at midnight showings around the country, leaving anime nerds to compete with frantic Twilight fangirls for line-up space in the lobbies of America's movie theaters. I feel certain that love is in the air. But even stranger than the blossoming romance between Twilight fan girls and Last Airbender anime geeks is the kind of reaction Airbender is getting.

Here’s the thing: Critics hate it. I mean really hate it. Except for this weirdo the film has been savaged by almost universal loathing from reviewers. Moviegoers on the other hand… sort of seem to like it. It’s still early but the film has been receiving positive scores from preview audiences.
