“This is how I will dress when recording the score for Matt Reeves DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES!”

That was Michael Giacchino’s Tweet, confirming what we didn’t yet know: A collaboration between he and close friend Matt Reeves on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a sequel that’s racing toward a 2014 release date.

Not that we should be surprised. Giacchino did Reeves’ Let Me In remake back in 2010. And the two run in the J.J. Abrams “professional circle,” often collaborating on projects that fall under the Bad Robot banner.

Dawn is a separate entity. Reeves stepped into the director’s chair on the anticipated sequel when Rise of the Planet of the Apes filmmaker Rupert Wyatt exited, fearing an inability to make the studio’s announced release date. Reeves proved his capability of handling big-concept special effects with the found-footage monster movie Cloverfield. Then he went ahead and recruited a fantastic cast for Dawn, including Jason Clarke of Zero Dark Thirty, Keri Russell and the fantastic Gary Oldman. They’ll all be supporting Andy Serkis, who recently was spotted as Caesar in the first still photo from the sequel.

As for Giacchino, he has a number of major projects on the horizon. He did the score for Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness, which reaches theaters in days. He’ll be doing Jupiter Ascending for the Wachowskis. And he’s reuniting with Ratatouille director Brad Bird for Tomorrowland, with George Clooney.
