You never really know what you're going to get out of a subway ride in New York. If you're lucky, it'll be an uneventful ride and maybe you'll make it up to the sidewalk without spotting a phlegm globber on the stairs on the way up. One can hope. But if you're really lucky, a little musical magic might happen, which is what occurred for the riders of the car in the above video when one saxophonist was confronted by another saxophonist and the two engaged in an impromptu musical battle/jam session.

The video has gone viral since it was posted this weekend, logging more than 1,700,000 views since March 31. In it, one saxophonist is playing is playing what sounds kind of like a bluesy take on Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean," when another player, who just so happens to have his saxophone on him, quickly puts it together and prepares to face off against a fellow musician. What happens is an example of the power of music. Two straphangers, who might have otherwise ignored one another, engaged in a jam session for the entertainment of themselves and the rest of the people in the car. And because of the age we're living in, this display of musical connection was captured for the enjoyment of the internet.

Sapphire Adizes was interviewed about the situation. Watch the video below, in which he explains what happened and also plugs his band's Facebook page.
