2008 Summer TV Preview: Nashville Star

Nashville Star - Season 6 Premieres: Monday, June 9, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. EST Network: NBC Creator(s): Reveille Starring: Billy Ray Cyrus (host), Judges: John Rich, Jewel, Jeffrey Steele Website: NBC.com  Nashville Star is a reality series that follows aspiring country singers as they compete against one another for a recording contract, and a Chevy pickup truck (because no country singer is truly complete without a pickup truck). Viewers can vote via phone or the internet to decide which contestants they want to see progress in the competition. This season, the series is moving from USA, where it originally aired to NBC. That’s not the only change for the series. Among the other adjustments include Billy Ray Cyrus taking over as host as well as an additional prize in the form of a performance at the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing, China.  I think it’s safe to say between the move to NBC and the addition of Cyrus as judge, the series will probably get a moderate boost in popularity this summer. That said, I’m not much of a country music fan and after the whole Idol craze, I’m not sure I’m up for getting into a new singing competition just yet. I’m probably in the minority there, though. I’m sure there are plenty of country music fans who are currently going through Idol withdrawal and are completely ready to start casting their votes to decide who the next big country singer is going to be.
