Game Of Thrones DVD First-Week Sales Set A Record For HBO
As we gear up for the second season of Game of Thrones on HBO, many have been enjoying a re-watch of, or getting caught up on the first season of the fantastic fantasy-drama series on DVD/blu-ray since its release earlier this month. In fact, the Season 1 DVD sales have broken a record for HBO.
Entertainment Weekly shared the news of the first season of Game of Thrones’ DVD sales, reporting that HBO sold 350,000 unites in the first week, which is “the biggest first-seven-day tally for any TV series title in the network’s history.” That includes shows like True Blood, Sex and the City, and The Sopranos.
Not only is this good news for the DVD sales, but it could also translate to good news for the series as it rolls out its second season (April 1). Assuming at least some of DVD purchasers were new viewers, it’s possible the series will have an even bigger turn-out in the ratings for Season 2, if not break even. That’s just speculation. We’ll have to wait and see but as a fan of the series, it would be great news to learn that even more people fell in love with the show during the hiatus between the first and second season. In the meantime, if you’re on the fence about buying Season 1 on DVD/Blu-ray, here’s our review for it.
