Between Extras, The Office, Life's Too Short and The Ricky Gervais Show, much of Stephen Merchant's career as an actor and a writer is linked with Ricky Gervais. But those who are familiar with his work know that the man's talent comes from his own style of humor and not merely by association with his better known accomplice. It's with that in mind that I have high hopes for Merchant's upcoming new HBO series Hello Ladies will really showcase the writer/actor's talents, as Merchant is front and center in the comedy.

HBO released the above teaser (via Deadline) to give us a little sample of what's in store for the series, which is co-written by Merchant, along with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, and stars Merchant as a gawky English man living in Los Angeles and searching for the woman of his dreams. As the teaser suggests, his friend Wade might be a hindrance in that regard. Fortunately, Merchant's smart enough to know that abortion isn't the subject you want to bring up when you're hitting on a lady.

In addition to Merchant, Hello Ladies will also star Kevin Weisman, as well as Nate Torrence, who we saw in the teaser above as good-old RoeVs.Wade. The series is set to premiere September 29. So we still have a few months to wait for this one to arrive. Hopefully this is just the first of numerous teasers from HBO while we wait.
