Chun Li's Legend Arrives On Blu-Ray

Did you see Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li in theaters? Did you actually enjoy it? Well, if you did, you’ll be in luck because I bet there will be tons of copies available when it’s released on DVD and Blu-ray on June 30th. You’d think a film based on one of the most popular video games of all time would have more punch than this.

Chun-Li’s (Kristin Kruek) father is taken from her when she’s very young. A number of years later, when Chun Li has grown up, she meets Gen (Robin Shou) who trains her to become a skilled fighter. With the help of Interpol cop Charlie Nash (Chris Klein) and detective Maya Sunee (Moon Bloodgood), Chun Li and Gen fight to take down Bison (Neal McDonough) and save the innocent people of Bangkok from his wrath. Poor Kristin Kruek, I bet she thought this film was going to be her big break into the world of a successful franchise. Not even close. Not even a blooper reel could save this DVD. In fact, it might have been better off if Twentieth Century Fox spared viewers and didn’t include any bonus material at all. The special feature list is a compilation of nonsense just like the film. The first disc of the Blu-ray version has the theatrical and unrated versions of the film, audio commentary, “Street Fighter: In Movie Enlightenment,” deleted scenes, a sneak peek of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, “Becoming a Street Fighter,” “Chun Li: Bringing the Legend to Life,” “Fox Movie Channel Presents Making A Scene,” “Recreating the Game: Arcade to Film Comparisons,” “The Fight in Black and White: Storyboard Gallery” and “Behind the Fight: Production Gallery.” Disc two has a digital copy of the unrated version of the film and the third disc has the Street Fight Round One: FIGHT! animated comic movie. If your curiosity is too strong to avoid wasting money on this film, the least you could do is spend the $29.98 on the DVD rather than $39.99 for the BD. The only items from the BD you won’t find on the DVD are “Street Fighter: In Movie Enlightenment” and the digital copy of the film. Would you even watch them anyway?

You know what, save your money all together. I’d rather have thirty items from the McDonald’s Dollar Menu than this movie sitting on my shelf. Too Bad Street Fighter Wasn’t Completely KO’d After Its Theater Run
