Need An Excuse To Buy Lost Season 5 On Blu-Ray? It's Educational!

Oceanic Flight 815 crashed exactly five years ago as of September 22nd. A lot has happened to the survivors since that fateful day. Have you had a hard time keeping up with all the developments? Well, help is on the way. Lost: The Complete Fifth Season hits Blu-ray on December 8th and will offer you admission to Lost University.

The fifth season features two main storylines. First, the plan to rebuild their lives on the mainland doesn’t go as well as they hoped, and the Oceanic Six must regroup and return to the island. Meanwhile, those left behind on the island are uncontrollably jumping through time. Season five introduces viewers to the core of the Dharma Initiative and prepares you for the show’s sixth and final season.

This five-disc set will have all 17 episodes, as well as deleted scenes and interviews, but the shining star of this collection is Lost University. The goal of the feature is to provide viewers with an interactive experience that will expand the world of Lost via BD-Live. It’ll be set up like an actual college with a course list including Introductory Physics of Time Travel, History, Family Psychology, The Languages of Lost, Jungle Survival Basics, Deciphering Hieroglyphics, Art Of Lost seminar, Philosophy 101 and all things Lost. The classes will be taught by professors – er, I mean executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, as well as the show’s cast. Like any college, Lost University will also have a bookstore from which users can purchase Lost U gear.

The thought of a TV show needing a school to elucidate all the concepts is pretty absurd, but the whole thing actually sounds quite interesting. It’s more than just the school of Lost. On top of the executive producers and cast, some of the courses are taught by real, accredited professors. For example, “History 101: Ancient Writing on the Wall” is taught by Dr. Kara Cooney, an Associate Professor of Egyptian Art and Architecture at UCLA. In case you’re not willing to let schoolwork infiltrate your entertainment life, there are courses like “Science 201: Jungle Survival Basics,” which, of course, is taught by the cast and crew of the show.

Enrollment is now open and can be completed at Lost University’s website, but the main campus won’t be accessible until the BD hits stores in December. When you compare the $79.99 this BD will cost you to the price of college tuition, it doesn’t seem so bad.
