Once A Wildcat, Always A Wildcat

The East High Wildcats are back. On February 17th Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will bring you the third installment of the High School Musical series on DVD and Blu-ray. If you’re a huge fan and have already seen the film countless times, you’ll still get some never-before-seen material if you pick up High School Music 3: Senior Year – Extended Edition.

It’s senior year and everyone is a little nervous to leave the comfort of East High. What better way to express their feelings than through a musical? Join Troy (Zac Efron), Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens), Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale), Ryan (Lucas Grabeel), Chad (Corbin Bleu) and Taylor (Monique Coleman) along with the rest of Wildcats as they work together to create a spring musical about their final days of high school.

Odds are, the usual fans will be the ones running to pick up this disc. The film is good on High School Musical standards, but it’s highly unlikely Senior Year will draw in any newcomers.

Those HSM diehards won’t be disappointed. Of course, there’s the barebones offer of a simple 1-disc DVD with the theatrical version of the film, but for most fans, it’s all or nothing. If you pick up the 2-disc extended edition DVD, not only do you get the extended edition of the film, but you also get cast goodbyes, a sing along feature, bloopers, deleted scenes, “It’s All in the Dress” featurette, “Night of Nights” featurette and a digital copy of the film. The ultimate 3 –disc Blu-ray deluxe edition comes with the extended version of the film, all of the material from the 2-disc version as well as new cast profiles, senior awards, a DVD copy of the extended edition and access to the BD Live experience. If that’s not enough for all of you out there with intense crushes on Troy Bolton, try hitting the magazine stand because there’s a number of teenybopper magazine dedicated to the craze.

High School Music 3 is probably not going to be in the running for best picture, but no film critic can deny the fact that it has successfully pleased the crowed it was created for. This film, which had the largest opening weekend for a musical film, is likely to have a significant impact on DVD sales as well.
