Headed into theaters late next month is the Jeffrey Dean Morgan-starring Lionsgate horror The Possession. Based on true events, the Ole Bornedal directed film has Morgan playing the father of a little girl who becomes obsessed with an old wooden box she gets at a yard sale. It soon becomes apparent that dark forces are at work and the child may have been possessed by an evil spirit.

The original trailer takes us through the set-up of the story, showing Morgan's character and his daughter getting the box and her developed obsession with it, which leads to some strange behavior. Things only get scarier from there.

The trailer below cuts to the chase much quicker, offering an even more abridged look at the film and recycling a lot of footage from the original trailer. Still, it's pretty creepy and builds up a fair amount of momentum.

If there was anything in the above trailer that wasn't in the original, I missed it, but at the very least, this video does showcase some of the most intense and scary moments featured in the previously released trailer. With the film's release coming up in a little over a month, hopefully we'll get to see a bit more from the movie. In the meantime, it still looks like The Possession could be good for a scare and an exciting story.

Rounding out the cast, in addition to Morgan, are Kyra Sedgwick, Natasha Calis, Madison Davenport and Grant Show.

The Possession arrives in theaters August 31. More information, photos and video can be found in our Blend Film Database.
