Under The North Carolina Sun

Cinema Blend uber-lord Josh Tyler has officially named me Diane Lane News Guy. So all four or five Diane Lane news items each year are all mine to drool over and then summarize in an entertaining three paragraphs. I'm almost done with the first paragraph and I haven't even started talking about how hot Diane Lane is, so I better get cracking. Variety is reporting that our favorite middle-age hottie will star with creepy older heartthrob Richard Gere in Nights in Rodanthe.

The movie is an adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks romance novel. Sparks is also the original source of many movies that you only go to if your wife and/or girlfriend and/or both make you attend. He is also the reincarnation of the not-yet-dead Robert James Waller, who previously used to write very short lame stories that housewives made extremely popular. And even though the movie will likely suck as much as the previous adaptations, this one has Diane Lane, which makes all the difference.

It's nice to see Richard Gere only trying to seduce a woman 16 years younger than him, rather than the usual 25 or 30 years he goes for. The guy is pushing 60, he should be in a movie with Jessica Tandy. In the movie, Gere will play a very old doctor, practically dead, who stops at an inn in a North Carolina (presumably to die.) While there, he meets and has a (blech) romance with a hot, hot middle-aged, but much younger looking woman, played by Miss Lane. Lane previously starred in 2002's Unfaithful with Gere, so this will be a reunion of sorts.
