Vacancy 2 Is Being Made For Some Reason

Although it wasn’t my favorite movie, I did like last year’s serial killers at a motel film, Vacancy, somewhat. That’s pretty good since I usually hate horror movies. I thought it had a few good scares and some decent performances from Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale. That’s not to say I think it warranted anything like a sequel, or in this case, prequel.

Moviehole reports that Vacancy 2 is on the way. Since the movie’s ending didn’t lend itself well to a sequel involving the same set-up and killers, this will take place before the events of the first movie. Since it wouldn’t make sense to have Wilson and Beckinsale back for a supposedly earlier adventure, and since they clearly would require too much money, they are being replaced by a bunch of no names. David Moscow, Agnes Bruckner, Nelson Lee, Brian Klugman, and Gwendoline Yeo will star. I don’t recognize any of those names, although a quick check shows that Moscow was in Newsies and then embarked on a career that went nowhere.

Vacancy director Nimrod Antal is probably also too expensive, and probably too busy, for this cheapy prequel, so he will be replaced by Eric Bross. He’s primarily a TV movie director. The weak casting and TV director make me think that this will head directly to DVD.
