It'll Be A Different SYTYCD This Summer

After double-offering So You Think You Can Dance this past season, FOX has returned the series to summer-only running, which is for the best. But that doesn't mean it's not going to be a very different show. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has been teasing massive changes in the format of the show.

All we know so far are cryptic hints, which have raised more questions than provided answers.

--Competitors will no longer choose their genres of dance (it has been done in the past by drawing from a hat)

--There will be no Top 20

--There will be weekly partner changes (this is a return to the earliest seasons)

--only one contestant will be leaving per week (this throws in the air the partners-only dancing we've seen so far)

--there will be fewer than four dancers in the finale

--All of this will make sense when one big, huge change is explained that brings it all together, but we'll have to wait to find out what that is.

What could it be? I actually haven't been able to come up with a single theory as to how they're going to pull all this together and have hit make sense unless they're getting rid of partnering altogether, or there will be graded group dances. It does have me very intrigued to watch SYTYCD this summer, to experience the changes.
