Check Out Archangel's Sweet Wings In X-Men: Apocalypse

Comic-Con is here and that means lots of cool new stuff to see. Yes, the one in San Diego is still more than half a year away, but the one is Brazil is just getting underway and just because you don’t speak the language doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to learn. A picture is worth 1,000 words in any language, and this picture of Archangel for next summer’s X-Men: Apocalypse says plenty, in our opinion.

While the very brown tone of the image doesn’t give us a lot of details as far as what the wings will look like in full color (don’t you love it when they figure how to show you something without showing you everything?) the wings are very clearly those of Archangel as opposed to his previous incarnation, that of the feathery winged Angel. The role will be played by Ben Hardy in the new movie. Exactly where the character will fit in the overall story is unknown, but this certainly implies that Archangel will be a big part of the film. They certainly needed a fairly large banner to get the complete wingspan in there. He should look even more impressive on the big screen.

What’s actually most interesting about this image is that it isn’t actually showing us anything we haven’t already seen. This isn’t actually an image of Ben Hardy in his role as Archangel. I mean, it COULD be, but it really resembles concept art for the character that appears to have been created before Hardy was cast. Either that, or the team has made the most seamless transition from concept to film that the world has ever seen.

In the original comics, the mutant Angel is transformed into Archangel by the character of Apocalypse, who, being the big bad of this movie, will probably do something very similar to our tragic hero. We’ve heard Hardy’s character referred to by both names in the lead up to the movie, so we will almost certainly see the transformation in the film.

Hopefully, we’ll see Angel, or Archangel, or both, in action when we get our first look at the film later this month. The X-Men: Apocalypse trailer is set to be attached to the front of Star Wars: The Force Awakens when it drops on December 18, if it isn’t released online before that. Hopefully something showing Angel in the mutant fight club that was teased a few months back.
