De Niro, Besson And Lee Jones Featured In The First Behind-The-Scenes Still From Malavita
Writer/director Luc Besson, Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones have created and/or been in a few scenes of cinematic gunfire over the course of their respective careers. From La Femme Nikita to Leon: The Professional, from Taxi Driver to Jackie Brown, and from Lonesome Dove to Captain America: The First Avenger, all three them have a home in the world of gun play and violence. So it only makes sense that they would come together to make a film about a gangster living in witness protection.
Relativity Media has released the first ever set photo from Malavita, Besson's latest directorial effort that stars De Niro and Jones. As you can see, they're still hard at work on production, but the distributor has not yet announced an official release date. You can check out the behind-the-scenes photo below and click on it to see it full size in our database.
Based on the novel by Tonino Benacquista and adapted by Besson and Michael Caleo, Malavita (ironically retited Badfellas for the American release of the book) centers on a retired American gangster (De Niro) who is taken in by the witness relocation program and moved to Normandy, France. Naturally, however, he doesn't fit into his new lifestyle that easily. Besson, who last directed The Lady, starring Michelle Yeoh and David Thewlis, has set up some good talent for his latest, as De Niro and Lee Jones will be joined by the likes of Michelle Pfieffer, Dianna Agron, Domenick Lombardozzi and Vincent Pastore.
