Fan Trailer Blows Actual Expendables 2 Trailer Out Of The Water
On the set of his now shooting team-up with Arnold Schwarzenegger The Tomb, Sylvester Stallone lamented that action films have lost their way. To him, the tenets of "basic male-pattern badness" are best exemplified in the unrepentantly violent offerings of the 1980s, in which insanely burly men had bunches of weapons, bon mots and little mercy. It appears editor/unashamed action aficionado Garrison Dean is of the same mind as his latest fan trailer for The Expendables 2 expands on this theme.
Check it out below, but be warned: "The Following preview has not been approved for people who hate America and fun."
Dean and his Monocular Group first drew our attention back in 2010 with the creation of a "Call to Arms" spot that declared men needed to get off the couch, go see The Expendables and take back the movie theaters that had been overrun by teenage girls thanks to chick flicks like Twilight and Sex & The City. Now this description may make the spoof spot sound sexist, but in fact the vid has such a sharply honed satirical edge that it manages to pay tribute to why we love those macho movies while lovingly mocking them.
Now with this trailer, Dean not only manages to pump up audiences about the return of Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Willis and a host of other movie badasses, but also tops all the over-the-top marketing that Lionsgate has unleashed thus far. I mean, "Red, white and boom!"—that's just fucking inspired.
The Expendables 2 hits theaters August 17th.
