The Hobbit Reveals New Footage In Massive 13-Minute Featurette
The reviews are emerging, and already the praise is ringing for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The first part of a trilogy prequel to Jackson's wildly popular and celebrated Lord of the Rings trilogy is opening in little more than a week, and Warner Bros. hasn't been shy about showing its hand with a comprehensive ad campaign, full of character posters, trailers, and behind-the-scenes featurettes, the latest of which features many members of the cast and crew and clocks in at 13 minutes and 14 seconds! Check out "The Return to Middle Earth" below:
Based on J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved children's book The Hobbit, this ambitious adventure movie centers on Bilbo Baggins, long before his kinsman Frodo's epic trek to Mordor. Of course, while this book's tale is simpler than that of Tolkein's Lord of the Rings, Jackson knows that his first film trilogy upped audience expectations, so his Hobbit better be even more spectacular. So, he, his LOTR stars Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen as well as Hobbit's Bilbo, Martin Freeman, promise audiences will get all they hope for and more!
To tease your anticipation, the vid above shows action, awe-inspiring landscapes, peeks at the transformative makeup and costumes, Bilbo's legendary sword Sting, and how the filmmakers expanded the story you know. There's also fun facts, like that The Hobbit shot for 266 days, the same amount of time it took Jackson to shoot The Lord of the Rings. But for those who are not familiar with Bilbo's tale, this vid also offers an introduction to the hirsute hero and the incredible quest that is put before him. What other prompting do you need?
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens in 3D and IMAX 3D (and HFR 3D) on December 14th. For more on the film, head over to our click here, or read our guide to help you figure out if you should see it in 48 fps.
