Maybe it's about time the Die Hard films started looking for a good day to die. Actually, Presidents Day 2013 might be a good choice. The fifth entry in the franchise might have topped the box office this weekend, but given the competition that's not saying much.

Audiences seemed apathetic toward John McClane this weekend, leaving A Good Day to Die Hard as a financial underperformer compared to the rest of the franchise. At this rate the movie may struggle to break $100 million domestic, something that even Die Hard 2 and Die Hard 3 managed back in the 1990s.

And despite the fact that Bruce Willis still knows how to bring all that machismo to the screen, we're getting pretty close to the point where we'll only buy another entry if there's a terrorist group plotting the overthrow of Shady Pines Retirement Home. "Yippee ki-- YOW, MY HIP!" just doesn't have that same ring.

Safe Haven opened par for the course for Sparks novel adaptations, banking a solid $25 million over the four-day holiday weekend and taking third place behind last weekend's winner Identity Thief. it certainly saw a better turn out than the other romantic drama, Beautiful Creatures. The supernatural love story got no love from audiences, opening at sixth place with just $8 million for the holiday.

The Weinsteins usually have a knack for picking winners, but their animated offering Escape From Planet Earth had critics complaining and audiences only showing moderate interest. The movie has been in the news recently with part of the matter concerning claims to profits of the film. Profits? Good luck there.
