Jessica Chastain Feels The Fear In Four Clips From Mama
What a difference a year makes. In 2010, no one had heard of the lovely redheaded actress Jessica Chastain. But 2011 brought the long-awaited release of Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life, and with it a slew of other films featuring Chastain and her chameleon like ability to inhabit very diverse characters. She chilled us in Take Shelter before earning an Oscar nod as the chipper but hurting Southern belle of The Help. Now, she's at the front of Oscar talk once more, this time for her lead in Kathryn Bigelow's challenging political drama Zero Dark Thirty. But before we get to the Academy Awards, let's relish in some ghoulish fun with the Chastain-fronted horror thriller Mama.
Get a glimpse of what Mama has in store with four new clips, all viewable below. (Make sure your screen's brightness is turned up, because some of these scares come from some literally dark places.)
Executive produced by Guillermo del Toro, this freaky flick's origins come from writer-director Andrés Muschietti's creepy short ( viewable here). The feature-length film centers on Annabel and Lucas, a couple who are obligated to take in his young, orphaned nieces who have practically gone feral after five years in the woods alone. Annabel is a caring but reluctant mother figure to the two spooked children, but as they grow close, she discovers they have brought something dangerous with them into her home. Unfortunately for Annabel, monsters under the bed, growling girls, creepy counter-jumping kids, are just the tip of the iceberg.
Mama opens January 18th.
