Looking at Edward Zwick's filmography you begin to notice a pattern. Glory: the story of the first all-black volunteer company in the U.S. Civil War being told through the eyes of a white guy. The Last Samurai: the story of the survival of samurai culture told through the eyes of a white guy. Blood Diamond: the story of conflict diamonds in Sierra Leone told through the eyes of a white guy. So what's his next project going to be? Of course, it's the story of how the Great Wall was built...through the eyes of a white guy.

According to Variety, Henry Cavill is now in talks for his first post-Man of Steel role and it's in Zwick's The Great Wall. Set up at Legendary East - a branch of the same company behind the new Superman movie - the story was written by Thomas Tull (who happens to be the Legendary Pictures chairman) and Max Brooks. The movie is the first project at Legendary East which was launched last year after a deal between Tull and some Asian investors. The outfit plans on producing "one or two event films a year." The project is already set up for distribution in China, however, it has not yet been picked up in the United States. The film is Zwick's first since 2010's Love and Other Drugs.

It's actually kind of funny how Zwick has been keeping the pattern going. Do you think he actually realizes what he has been doing for the 23 years or do you think he's totally oblivious. It might be wrong, but I'm kind of hoping it's the latter.
