Sinead O'Connor Slams Miley Cyrus For Letting Record Executives Prostitute Her

Most of Miley Cyrus’ ”Wrecking Ball” video may come off like a sexual explosion, but the non-sexual, zoom-in introduction is most definitely a shoutout to Sinead O’Connor’s iconic “Nothing Compares 2 U”. The singer confirmed it during a recent sitdown with Rolling Stone, and not surprisingly, O’Connor herself has something to say about that.
The legendary Irishwoman is apparently a fan of Cyrus herself and thinks she’s pretty talented, but she’s no fan of the way she’s been behaving for the past few months. In fact, she feels so strongly about it, she took to her personal website this week to pen an open letter asking Miley to stop letting the record company executives around her prostitute her out to line their own pockets.
Here’s a portion of the actual letter, which is way longer…
”Real empowerment of yourself as a woman would be to in future refuse to exploit your body or your sexuality in order for men to make money from you. I needn’t even ask the question.. I’ve been in the business long enough to know that men are making more money than you are from you getting naked. Its really not at all cool. And its sending dangerous signals to other young women. Please in future say no when you are asked to prostitute yourself. Your body is for you and your boyfriend. It isn’t for every spunk-spewing dirtbag on the net, or every greedy record company executive to buy his mistresses diamonds with.
Whether or not a woman being overtly sexual in public is exploiting herself or empowering herself is an argument people have been having for centuries. More than likely, it will never conclusively be solved. It’s pretty clear where O’ Connor stands on the issue. To be perfectly honest, it’s hard to disagree with a lot of her points, but as an independent, unattached woman, Miley can do whatever the hell she wants with her body, even if that involves letting the whole world see it from as many angles as possible.
Here's to hoping Miley finds the path that makes her the happiest in the long-term.
