Sandra Oh's Killing Eve Already Broke An Impressive Ratings Record

BBC America's Sandra Oh drama Killing Eve has been well received by critics, and audiences are apparently seeing that claim and responding. The series has been doing well for its network and has already broken an impressive ratings record on the road to its Season 1 finale. The drama is the only scripted show in a decade to achieve an unbroken streak of ratings growth in two major demographic, and is presently in the top 5 of best-reviewed dramas of 2018.

Killing Eve may not be the most-watched show on television, but the metric in which the series is growing a fan base is an impressive feat. In its first seven weeks on television, Killing Eve has seen an audience growth of 47% overall. That adds up to 986,000 viewers for the Season 1 penultimate episode with 455,000 of those viewers falling in the 25-54 demographic and 367,000 in the 18-49 group. Both demographic categories have shown a growth of at or above 90% since the series' beginning, which is something advertisers and networks like to see.

In addition to ratings growth, Killing Eve is also "killing" it with critics as it remains one of the top reviewed dramas of 2018 according to Metacritic. Additionally, the series sits at a Rotten Tomatoes critical rating of 96% at the time of writing for its first season, with CinemaBlend's own TV Editor Nick Venable being a fan that says this show should be a top priority for everyone. That could all change should the show disappoint with its Season 1 finale, although all signs so far don't show that happening.

BBC America, of course, is thrilled by Killing Eve's success and had already renewed the series for Season 2 before it even premiered. Network president Sarah Barnett said the Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer led drama has exceeded BBC America's expectations in every way, and that the network had high expectations for the series to begin with. Barnett added that Killing Eve is one of those shows a network dreams of getting, which would appear to say they're wanting to hold onto this show and its increasing success for as long as it will go.

BBC America will air the Season 1 finale of Killing Eve on Sunday, May 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Fans of the series who will be needing another show to latch on to during the wait for Season 2 will be able to find all they need at our summer premiere guide.
