Compare Klaatus With High Definition Day The Earth Stood Still

Whenever the new Day the Earth Stood Still remake comes up I complain that there really isn’t any need to remake the movie. I’m a huge fan of the original and, although I think some things about the original are being handled well (Keanu Reeves is actually a pretty good replacement for original Klaatu Michael Rennie), I just don’t see the point in a remake. Then someone reminds me - not many people know the original film - it’s not exactly in the public consciousness. That’s definitely a point I can’t argue against.

Hopefully that’ll change as Fox prepares for the remake by releasing the original Day the Earth Stood Still on Blu-ray and two-disc special edition on December 2nd. And, to help you compare the original with the new version, the release will feature an exclusive first look at the remake starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly.

Both editions will feature new content that hasn’t been seen before, although the Blu-ray version has the upper hand, with an exclusive interactive theremin which allows you to create your own score and an exclusive interactive game titled “Gort Command!”.

Take a look at the content announced for the December 2nd Blu-ray release (the two-disc DVD will have all of the same content except the two “exclusive to BD” pieces) and check out the original The Day the Earth Stood Still on Blu-ray or DVD, if for no other reason than so you can agree with me that a remake isn’t necessary!
