McClane Might Get His Trademark Phrase Back For DVD
Last week we got the skinny on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, one of the two big movies Fox is promoting its exclusive Blu-ray library with for the rest of the year. Now they’ve released details on the second one: Live Free or Die Hard.
The movie is coming out in three different incarnations: a single disc version, a two-disc edition, and the Blu-ray edition. In an answer to fans complaints pre-release of the movie, the single disc widescreen release, two-disc edition and Blu-ray release will include an Unrated cut of the film. That means the only way you get the theatrical PG-13 cut of the film is on the single disc full screen edition (or the Blu-ray which includes both). Once fans saw the movie, though, they weren’t as bothered by the PG-13 rating, as director Len Wiseman really pushed the boundaries of that rating, so do we really need an unrated cut?
Once again, I must point out I’m a bit disappointed by the Blu-ray materials being announced. This simply isn’t making a format change worth it. If Fox wants to keep pushing titles as major parts of their Blu-ray exclusive library, they need to give some incentive to lure people to the format.
As you’d expect from a DVD getting the attention Fox is giving it, the different editions are quite loaded with extras. Take a look at the announced material and check out Live Free or Die Hard hitting shelves November 20th.
