David Lynch Shoots Himself

Director David Lynch is well known for his confusing but sometimes brilliant movies. Or his brilliant but sometimes confusing movies. Lately, they are tipping more towards the confusing and while he can do no wrong in the eyes of his hardcore fans, his 2006 film, Inland Empire, polarized critics and made about six dollars at the box office. But now Variety reports that Lynch will release a documentary about himself and his process of making Inland Empire.

The documentary will go by the clever title Lynch and is the result of cameras following the director around for the two year shoot of the movie starring Laura Dern and Jeremy Irons. The director of the documentary is not being identified and will be known by the pseudonym “blackANDwhite.” Although Lynch denies that he directed the film himself, it’s possible that he’s lying or perhaps it is his daughter, director-of-sorts Jennifer Lynch.

Even for those of us who have been frustrated by Lynch’s recent slate of films should be excited to see this behind the scenes stuff. “blackANDwhite” reportedly lived with Lynch for two years and the documentary will cover all aspects of the day-to-day creative process. Maybe a backwards talking midget will serve him a hot dog from a snow shovel. Lynch will be looking for a distributor at Cannes, look for it in the states in the near future.
