Jackie Chan Is A Flying Duck

Rush Hour did a lot for Jackie Chan, but one thing it did not do was turn him into an American action hero. Sure, he pulled off being in a couple B-Movies and was even able to somewhat revive his career with the somewhat successful The Forbidden Kingdom. But more than the novelty karate sidekick Jackie Chan is not. At least not in the States.

But of course, he still makes movies. And according to THR, his next may be Flying Duck, a road comedy that is described by its funders as a “cross-border bromance.” The movie will be directed by indie favorite Jia Zhangke. Apparently the role he’ll play in the movie will be a small one and will “be a play on his cop persona.”

With a guy like Chan who is mostly all awe and not much talent, it’s hard not to be bummed about his aging body. This guy should be jumping off walls and breaking things with his face, not picking up side roles in small indie flicks. But I suppose as long as Brett Ratner is alive, there’s always the unfortunate potential of another Rush Hour. I guess we should just embrace this whole “cross-border bromance” thing.
